KUST and BTH Exchange Programs

Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) in China and Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) in Sweden have been working to develop mutual exchange programs since signing an agreement in 2005. Since the inception, KUST has sent six professors to BTH for a one-month academic visit, and BTH has also sent six teachers to KUST to give lectures. In addition, 14 undergraduates and postgraduates from various departments of KUST have been selected to attend BTH to complete Master's degrees, and five students from BTH have attended KUST to complete their graduation theses. Currently, seven KUST students are studying at BTH. BTH and KUST are still making joint efforts to apply to the Linnaeus-Palme Foundation for support in implementing the mutual exchange programs.

On November 2006, when Dr. Sharon Kao-Walter (Program Manager at BTH) visited KUST, Prof. Zhou Rong, President of KUST, awarded a Certificate of Guest Professor to her.

 

On September 2006, five KUST students went to BTH for further education.

 

On April 2007, Prof. Chi Yilin, Dean of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Faculty, KUST, paid a visit to BTH together with staff of Mechanical Engineering Department, BTH.

 

On April 2007, Prof. Chi Yilin met the previous Vice-Chancellor of BTH.

faculty language program with unbc, canada  

based on the agreement between kunming university of science and technology (kust), china and the university of northern british columbia (unbc), canada, kust plans to select 10 teaching staff from different faculties to a have 4-month teaching research stay at unbc for each of the 4 progtram periods in 2006 and 2007. all the selected teachers are required to audit one course and complete one course for credit in their specialized areas, and conduct their relevant teaching research during their stay period at unbc. these kust teachers are expected to start a bilingual course for at kust after they complete their courses successfully and return to kust.


 

tesol certificate program with payap university, thailand
 
according to the agreement between kunming university of science and technology (kust) and payap university (pyu), thailand. kust started in july 2005 to send 10 junior english teaching staff to pyu for attending the summer tesol certificate training program. this a 5-year program till 2009. the training program of each training period takes 5 weeks, and at least 3 courses are taught by qualified, high level, tesol experts from native english speaking countries. 11 kust teachers were sent to pyu in july 2005 and all of them obtained the tesol certificate. positive comments about the program were reported from the first group of the 11 kust teachers participated in the program in july 2005.


 

joint ph d programs and student graduation project
 with ecl, insa and ensam, france
 
kunming university of science and technology has a long cooperative relationship with ecole centrale de lyon (ecl), institut national des sciences appliqu¨¦es de lyon (insa de lyon) and ecole nationale sup¨¦rieur des arts et m¨¦tiers (ensam) since 1990. based on the relevant agreements, kust sends its young teaching and research staff to ecl and insa de lyon to stay for one year or more each time for joint supervised ph.d programs in materials science and it. the ph d candidates in this program are jointly supervised by chinese professors of kust and french professors in the relevant partner institutions in france. the doctor degrees of both chinese and french are planned to be conferred to the candidates on their successful completion of the program. ecl and insa de lyon also invite professors or researchers from kust to deliver lectures and have cooperative research.
 
ensam sends 2-3 of its senior year student majoring in engineering to complete their theses and defend every year in kust.

the cooperative program started from 1997 between kunming university of science and technology and max-planck-institut f¨¹r festkörperforchun£¨mpi-fkf£©, germany. prof. hanns-ulrich habermeier (honourable professor of kust, head of technology service group and prof. chengtian lin (visiting professor of kust, head of crystal growth group) make plans to accept young teaching and research staff from the institute of advanced materials for photoelectronics (iamp), kust to germany for research leaves during the phd degree program period, and for cooperative researches projects with prof. zhang pengxiang, head of iamp. prof. habermeier and prof. lin visit kust almost every year to deliver lectures, exchange ideas of research, and participate in the thesis defence. prof. zhang pengxiang is often invited to mpi-fkf for delivering lectures and carrying out research.
on 7-14 october, 2005, prof. lin visited kust again and delivered two lectures for teachers and students.
 
 


 

 
faculty and student programs with hanyang university, korea
 
baesd on the agreement signed between kunming university of science and technology (kust) and hanyang university (hyu), korea. a visiting group with 20 people headed by prof. kwack kae dal paid an academic visit to kust on 27-28 october, 2005. this is the second time since a visiting group from korea visited kust in april, 2005. the 7th north-east asia symposium on nano and information technology was held in kust during the visit. postgraduates from both universities made presentations on their theses or papers and shared ideas. 32 papers were collected in the proceedings of this symposium.
